Four forest relics unsuitable for rubber and oil palm cultivation are scattered throughout the SOGB agro-industrial plantations. Among these forest relics, the study by [[#R01716|Bohoussou et al. 2018]] reported the presence of chimpanzees (''Pan troglodytes verus'') in the largest of the relics, covering an area of 1,450 hectares. Other animals with special status are also scattered throughout these plots. The village forests of coastal south-west Côte d'Ivoire show that there are still a few chimpanzee individuals scattered in refuge forests that are difficult for humans to penetrate and unsuitable for agriculture ([[#R01716|Bohoussou et al. 2018]], [[#R01717|Soiret et al. 2019]]).

In the southwest coastal forests, the high concentration of human populations near the sites increases threats such as hunting and the creation of plantations. There is also the removal of firewood and timber. All of these actions could lead to the disappearance of these village forests, which represent a major conservation priority, if nothing is done (Soiret pers. obs. 2023).
